Oh, Autumn (or fall). The tartan, the florals, the boots! Nobody can deny the way fashion changes the second the leaves fall... Whilst it is still quite cold in New York, one could always steal some inspiration from these amazing fashion shows! Let's take a look at some of my favorite collections and pieces from this AW collection.

Marissa Webb

Even though this is an 'airier' version of an autumnal collection (in fact, it seems like a muted spring collection), it would be the perfect collection for those warm, drizzly days. The jackets are in a gorgeous silhouette that could arguably suit multiple shapes and sizes.

Rhié

Inspired by the inside of a kaleidoscope, this season's collection is flowy and silky. For me, the real standout pieces were the two pink floral pieces. Even with the same skirt and shoes, you can see the more 'edgy' and more 'feminine' options for styling the collection. Almost as if to say 'hey, all of you who only wear all-black, here's a happy alternative'. Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the model's stunning curls?

ZAC Zac Posen

This tartan coat would be perfect for A/W!

Ah, the classic fallback - plaid. The skater style of the dresses and coats in this collection is wonderful, again hinting at the idea that designers are open to a diverse spectrum of people wearing their collections through a more flattering style. I also feel like this collection is catered to students, which is a homage to the fact that the line is a more 'mid-level' range. Of course, that isn't to say the collection is cheap, but still, Zac Posen is working towards tailoring his clothing to everyone.

Red Valentino

This Instagram worthy collection is perfect for a younger demographic, especially with the social media tags donned on some of the jackets. This collection featured some stripes, which hints that they will continue to be a staple for AW16! The scalloped edges on the skirts and jackets is wonderful, mixing feminine features with some more boxy shapes. Also, black and white is dominant in this collection (thank goodness, there's only so much one can step out of their comfort zone in a year *I'm looking at you, Spring*).

Sophie Theallet

I absolutely adore the intricate print of this dress!

Even though I hadn't heard of this brand before their runway show, there is no denying how stunning their collection was. Between the diverse models, gorgeous catwalk and intricate designs, the classy show was definitely a highlight of this NYFW.
The sparkles on this dress would definitely light up a cold fall night

Pamella Roland

Similar to Sophie Theallat's collection, these pieces oozed class and seemed perfect for an fancy holiday dinner. Whilst the use of darker colors emphasizes the 'winter blues' we all seem to get, I can imagine a gorgeous person wearing this collection in the snow, juxtaposing their outfit with the freezing weather. I call the dress on the left the "Elsa gone bad" ensemble...

Hervé Léger by Max Azria

I really loved the weaving on these pieces. This grungy collection featured both structure and a bit of flow in the dresses, which looked perfectly tailored and designed for sky high boots. Perfect transitional pieces from fall to winter to spring!

Oscar de la Renta

The lace detailing is gorgeous!

This show never fails to please me. This season's deep reds and silky prints made my jaw drop. It was impossible to even pick a top three from this collection, and I truly believe that these pieces would be perfect style inspiration for countless people for a number of years. I also have to commend the makeup artists for creating a gorgeous, re-creatable (is that a word?) look that is easy enough to do on a sub-zero New York morning.
A mini Queen Elsa

Carolina Herrera

One of my personal favorites (it's so hard to narrow down!)

The 3D flowers in this collection are something we haven't seen yet. Whilst they aren't the most practical pieces, there's no denying how feminine and eye catching they are. Like most CH shows, this one was studded with famous faces gracefully cascading down the marble runway. Again, like most, the collection trumped the world renowned models!

Arguably my favorite behind the scenes shot

Marchesa

Based off of a royal palace, this collection is worthy of a (scandalous) princess. With exquisite tiaras, sheer paneling and enough tulle to last a lifetime, each piece could easily be donned by a member of a royal family.

If you have time, I'd recommend peeking through Vogue's atmosphere photos. They're stunning, and a great way to see the ambiance!

Naeem Khan

This collection was a hommage to Khan's heritage, with a large amount of stunning embroidery. As spectacular as the collection was, the real show runner was the link to the Make-a-Wish foundation. Khan strutted down the runway hand in hand with Trinity Morgan, who was donned in a beautiful red dress similar to one in the collection.

So, there you have it. I don't know about you, but I can't wait for autumn to roll around again, especially if I can wear clothes as perfect as these! Let me know what your favorite designer (and runway) was this NYFW, and I'll see you again for our next installment - London!!
